CORNWALL DESIGN FORUM TO HOST PECHA KUCHA NIGHT
New York, London, Barcelona, Redruth?
A worldwide phenomenon is coming to Cornwall! Pecha Kucha, an idea that began in Tokyo has taken the design world by storm as an engaging and creative way to make presentations.
On Tuesday 26th October, from 5.30-8pm at the Melting Pot Cafe, Krowji, Redruth, guests are invited to listen to a series of presentations from the leaders of innovative community lead projects from around the world.
Pecha Kucha presentations are now being held in cities all over the world, and soon, Redruth will be riding this new wave of ways to hold creative discussions.
Can we create a big society by design? Cornwall Design Forum and Dott Cornwall are hoping to find the answer, with the help of some influential speakers at their Dott Pecha Kucha event.
Paul Davis, Chair of Cornwall Design Forum, said: “20 slides for 20 seconds each, the idea of Pecha Kucha is so simple and yet the results are often surprising, completely engaging and always inspiring. What better way to explore the idea of Big Society and the impact design can have on this new zeitgeist. Our list of speakers for the event is already impressive so it’s a great opportunity to hear from visionary thinkers and successful entrepreneurs as well as mingling with the best talent in Cornwall.”
Pecha Kucha is a Japanese concept, where speakers use a presentation method that keeps their ideas flowing and their talks concise. Pecha Kucha presentations are made up of 20 images each shown for 20 seconds.
Speakers at Dott Pecha Kucha include David Barrie, who set up The People’s Supermarket in London – a new social enterprise that is taking on the supermarkets to revolutionise the way people buy their food. It is constantly being designed and re-designed by its members, and volunteers run the supermarket.
Also speaking is Kathryn Woolf, the co-Founder and Director of SEA Communications, who work in creative collaboration with communities to solve the issues that they face.
Will Coleman, the Educational Consultant, filmmaker and storyteller will present, as will Andrea Sidmok, the Programme Director of Dott Cornwall.
From Uscreates, Zoe Stanton, is the founder of the organisation that finds creative ways to improve people’s lives. They develop solutions that give real people the confidence, skills and capability to make a difference in their communities.
