DESIGN FOCUS WORKSHOPS FOR BUSINESSES & DESIGNERS
Being in business is about making profit. Making profit means having an advantage. That means being attractive to customers, suppliers and employees. And that means behaving responsibly towards them. That’s the bottom line, and the focus of a new series of events being co-ordinated by the Somerset Design Enterprise Network
The ‘Sustainable Business by Design’ workshops being held in Exeter on 12th April bring together experts, businesses, designers, policy-makers and the public sector to debate ideas and provide a deeper insight and focus on areas of business and design that can be used to a business’s benefit. On 22 March, the Sustainable Business By Design conference in Taunton begun to unravel the ‘greenwash’ from the valuable nuggets about sustainable business practice. The conference was facilitated by six experts, Marianne Guldbrandsen, Mark Shayler, John Boult, John Luff, Peter Hopton and Lynne Elvins who gave insightful talks and led break-out sessions giving delegates the opportunity to ask questions about their own businesses. A key message which came out of the conference was that sustainability is about much more than environmental impact, and that truly sustainable businesses need to consider their social and economic impact.
The Exeter workshops will give businesses the opportunity to delve deeper again and explore both ideas and theory on sustainable design. So whether you procure, design, run or manage any organisation, this event can improve your value and competitive advantage.
With each workshop focusing on Branding & Marketing, Services & Service Design, Product Design, Visual Language & Communications, and Sustainability Diagnostics & Mapping, you will have the chance to hear from a range of professional, experienced designers, consultants and business owners. There will be case studies and a chance to debate ideas.
The series of workshops are being run by the Somerset Design Enterprise Network and supported by a range of national partners including, among others, Exeter College, The Design Council, the Creative Industries iNet, Designed in Devon and the South West Design Forum.
