Established in the 1980s, Springboard Design Limited is a tight-knit team of experienced designers, producing a variety of 2D & 3D work, including:
• educational exhibitions and visitor centres
• interactive exhibits and moving structures
• information graphics for print and screen
• product design from concept to manufacture
• glass staircases and museum display cases
• displays promoting recycling.
We are particularly interested in projects that promote or contribute to a sustainable future.

- Mike Hoddell
- Director
Mike was one of the founding partners of Springboard Design in 1981. In his product design work he has developed an engineered and functional approach to combining materials in an optimum, innovative and cost effective way. Projects now benefit from 28 years of experience in engineering, electronics, production techniques and product development, utilising an inclusive relationship with clients. Recent interactive exhibit projects have involved Mike in forming creative teams with inventors and scientists working alongside electrical, software, structural and mechanical engineers. - Joseph Ottewill

On graduating Joe started a small design/build workshop in Bristol before moving to the Dordogne to work on barn conversion projects. Returning to the UK he joined the British Museum (Natural History) in 1980 to design interactive exhibits for the then new exhibition schemes that were revolutionising the public galleries. After seven years he moved back to Bristol to join Springboard’s Product Design section. His clients have included Eva Jiricna Architects, Richard Rogers and Partners, Foster Associates, Lifshultz Davidson and a host of other practises working on specialist architectural features including glass and stainless steel staircases, museum showcases and interactive exhibits. His particular interest is in structures. - Rob Mackay

On graduating Rob joined book publishers Hodder and Stoughton, working on the design of secondary and higher education titles. In 1980 he joined Information Design Workshop in London, working on projects for clients including the Health Education Council, the Arts Council, Help the Aged and Community Service Volunteers. After a spell in India designing for the Centre for Science and Environment in New Delhi, Rob joined Springboard in 1984. Since then he has worked on a wide variety of both graphic and exhibition design projects for public, private and voluntary sector clients. Rob’s particular skills lie in the effective organisation and display of information in printed graphics and in the design of visitor centres, educational exhibitions & interpretive displays.
